Ayurvedic Wellness
Offers life-style practices aiming to bring balance & prevent dis-ease.
Overview
Ayurveda means “The Science of Life”. Ayurveda and Yoga are sister sciences going back over 3000 years to the texts of the Vedas. One of Ayurveda’s central ideas is that balance makes for a healthy body and mind. (By the way this concept influenced how I created the logo for Centre Balance.) Human imperfection is compassionately considered and Ayurveda offers many life-style practices that aim to bring balance back and prevent illness from happening. Ayurveda also considers seasonal changes in nature and how that impacts our bodies’ states of balance.
The five natural elements (earth, water, fire, air, and ether) form the three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) that together and in endless variations make individual body constitutions. Lifestyle and nature’s fundamental forces – the gunas bring imbalances that may lead to dis-ease.
Ayurvedic Wellness counselling offers an assessment of the individual constitution and current imbalances. These insights may lead to a different self-understanding that motivates lifestyle changes bringing balance back and improved self-care supporting health instead of dis-ease.
An Ayurvedic assessment may be used complementary to a Yoga Therapy session or to create seasonal Yoga practices adapted to a personal constitution. An assessment forms the basis for a consultation that is then followed up with customized recommendations.
Ayurveda Wellness Counselling addresses lifestyle balance and may include recommendation and guidance for the following:
- Improved self-understanding of one’s constitution and where more balance is needed
- Therapy for the five senses (sound, smell, site, taste and touch): music and mantra, aromatherapy, color therapy, food intake and herbs, self-massage
- Seasonal lifestyle recommendations (affecting nutrition, sleep, activity level etc.)
- Ayurveda diet and nutrition that supports optimal digestion
- Personalized yoga practice that considers individual need for physical and energetic balance and health
Ayurveda and its lifestyle and wellness tools are beneficial for anyone who is curious about caring for themselves and connecting body, mind and spirit to work towards balance and optimal health in harmony with nature’s elements.

F.A.Q
Will I learn about the Doshas: Vata, Pitta, Kapha?
Yes you will. I love to explain how the doshas relate to the five elements (earth, water, fire, air and either) and how your nature is composed of these. Understanding the concept of balance in Ayurveda really helps you to understand what your inate (natural) constitution is and where you “strayed” away from it. What do you need to do to find that balance again by understanding the qualities (gunas) of your life-style choices. That is where the self-empowerment comes from!
What if I am sick and need treatment?
I am not offering diagnosis or treatments of illnesses. I can refer you to trained Ayurvedic Medical Doctors. You can learn from me about food and kitchen cupboard ingredients that help with well-being and prevention of dis-ease. You can find out how self-care addressing the five senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch) can support your well-being while receiving other medical or professional health care.
Do you have a COVID-19 Protocol in place?
Yes, absolutely. I clean and sanitize my own props after each client and offer participants to bring their own props. I encourage the use of masks even thought this is currently not mandatory. Each community centre adheres to a specific BCCDC approved protocol limiting the number of participants, enhancing sanitation and cleaning, disallowing the use of communal props. Please ask me about more details. You can also book a online (Zoom) session with me.
What do Yoga and Ayurveda have to do with each other?
Both Yoga and Ayurveda go back over 3000 years to the texts known as Vedas. They are considered sister sciences and compliment each other. Ayurveda can inform your yoga practice and a practioners to choose adequate personalized yoga therapy sessions. Yoga with its variety of movement forms (asanas) and inward oriented practices (pratyahara, dhyana) may be suggested in Ayurveda to bring balance back to a person’s life.
